VICTORIAN ELEGANCE MEETS MODERN SERENDIPITY
The leafy Melbourne suburb of Carlton contains the zenith of historic, Victorian post gold rush, grandeur in housing. The interiors of this Heritage Residence however, had undergone various renovations over the preceding century, and no longer reflected either the Victorian era design or modern living. AB Studio refurbished the historic elements, whilst introducing a rich array of modern design and interior detail. The new work breathes life into a three storey building, with a symphany of opulence and delight. The use of natural light opens up the dark interiors, and reveals a dazzling array of materials and architecture. There is often an artistic quirkiness of design in this house, reminiscent of the wealth and spendour of bygone eras but unequivocally modern. Moving through the Aladdin’s cave of ideas on every level, one eventually bursts out into the rooftop sunshine, where an expansive roof deck invites the occupants to relax at the centre of a 360 degree view of Melbourne.
